How messed up are our priorities? When the financial institutions are in trouble, due in large part to to their own screw ups, here comes the gov’t (taxpayers) to lend a hand. When schools are financially in trouble, on the other hand, oops, that’s none of our business. A crumbling school system is fine, just slap some oversites and accountability on them and the rest will take care of itself. It’s a local issue. And local taxpayers don’t want to see their property taxes go up…not to teach somebody else’s children. I know that money is not a quick fix solution, but I sure wish it wasn’t so obvious how little we care about one thing as compared to another.
