I haven’t been frustrated by an opinion piece in awhile, but this recent article really got to me. I added a comment as well, under the name “concernedcitizen” for the first time ever in my lifetime. I even almost wrote a letter to the editor, but just don’t have the time to put one together right now. I was even more frustrated to read some of the other comments that people had written earlier. And we wonder why teachers are so little respected in this country? The stereotyping of teachers, teaching and learning is incredible. Not every teacher is looking for a “safe job” when they become teachers; nor are they all so limited in intellect that any Ivy League grad would be a step up in comparison.
Public school teachers will never be taken seriously if they are not recognized as being professionals, and not a full time babysitting service.
